astrochimp is a self-taught producer and DJ based in Cyprus. He got his first taste of production during a short course in

London in late 2018, but it was during the 2020 pandemic that music really pulled him in. Hours of YouTube tutorials, trial

and error, and a growing obsession with what sound could do. His roots are in metal and his ear was shaped early by film

scores, the kind of music that makes a scene feel bigger than it is. Unable to sit still long enough to master an instrument,

he found electronic music gave him everything he was looking for: total freedom and a new thing to learn every day. He's

now slowly picking up the bass. What drives him most is the groove of a track, but melody is never far behind. He sees no

point staying inside one genre when you can move freely between all of them. His catalogue already crosses from

electronic dance into rap. Day to day he usually has several projects open at once, working across them until something

demands to be finished. He sets himself the goal of learning at least one new skill a week and spends long stretches just

experimenting with sounds. Most of it happens on a laptop. He understands the importance of hardware synths but finds

that softwares give him fewer limits than any physical machine. Inspiration comes from everywhere: other music, sounds

picked up while out in nature, a line from a film that sticks. The common thread is curiosity and the understanding that

sound, like the natural world, never runs out of new places to go.
