Halil Karapaşaoğlu

Halil Karapaşaoğlu was born in Psyllatos in 1985. He graduated from the Department of English Language, Literature and Humanities. He completed his master's degree on the representation of robots in Science Fiction cinema. He continues his doctoral studies on Turkish settler colonialism. In 2013, he published his poetry books "Love with Hot Peppers" and in 2020 "The Universe of the End Times". He published the literary magazine “KerPiç”. Since 2025, he has been writing his poems in “Cyprioturkish” as an act of civil disobedience against the standards imposed by the colonizer.
Who is Halil?
Karapaşaoğlu's poems and articles have been published in various magazines in Cyprus, Turkey and Greece. He participated in literary talks, panels and festivals. He wrote daily and weekly articles in Realist, Avrupa-Afrika newspapers. He currently writes weekly articles about Turkish settler colonialism and the “Cyprioturkish” in Yenidüzen newspaper. In 2013, he declared his conscientious objection. He stated that he would not serve the colonial army. In 2019 and 2024, he went to prison in the colonized part of Cyprus.
