Workshop: How to tell a story.. with a photograph - by Ermina Demetriou

€35.00

Dates & Time: 17.04.2026 & 24.04.2026, 18:00-21:00

Total hours per session: 3

Workshop language: English or Greek, depending on the needs of the participants

Participation fee: 35 euros / person (for both sessions)

Detailed Description: We meet to talk about the images we love (or would love to take), how we "read" them, and how we could express ourselves through them (no previous experience or special equipment are required). We bring our favorite photograph, discuss it, learn basic photographic principles, and... take pictures! Using the image we have chosen as a starting point, we will discuss what it means to take photographs and how a camera (or a mobile phone) can be used, sowing the seeds for our own photography project. In a two-session creative workshop, we will explore photographic techniques, learn about the work of selected photographers, and investigate the ethical use of the photographic medium – with the aim of better understanding our personal intentions and discovering new ways of personal expression.

Goals & Context: The aim of this workshop is to allow participants to use photography as a concious medium of expression, and familiarise them with its power of storytelling, raising awareness and enriching imagination. At the same time, through this process, participants will be able to have a better understanding of ethical issues raised when photographing people, places and things. Bringing closer artists and non-professionals, it can function as a starting point of understanding art not as a luxury, not as a privillage, but as a vital aspect of our lives.

Ermina Demetriou: A graduate of Photography & Audiovisual Arts in the University of West Attica, Greece, Ermina Dimitriou has additionally attended seminars and workshops in Creative Writing, Script-Writing for Cinema, Film Theory & Critique, Psychology and Philosophy. She has participated in group art exhibitions in Nicosia and abroad, while some of her literary works have been published in literary magazines and journals. Ιn 2023 she co-founded the feminist artists' group Women Need More Sleep, organizing free workshops, art exhibitions and open discussions concerning feminist issues in Nicosia, Cyprus, where she currently resides. She works as a social media specialist by day, and a film & TV series reviewer by night. She takes photographs in between.
